I get Fri/Sat off so I decided to put in a late am/pm hunt on Friday. Since the area I decided to hunt was unfamiliar to me , I waited until late morning (9am) to get out.

Walking into my new area I was following the natural trails/funnels
& looking for deer sign that was sadly lacking in my previous outings but not today. There were no less than 4 scrapes in approx 100 yards.

I set up my Lone Wolf climber in the funnel between a stone wall & the short ridge to my back withing 20 yards of the last scrape.

Plenty of squires & chipmunks to keep me alert but at 1pm there was the unmistakable sound of running in the distance. There was 3 maybe 4 tails up working back & forth the ridge.

It was a good 5 minutes of the buck chasing a doe with a few other deer tagging along. The doe finally worked her way down in my direction, paused to look up to the ridge behind me & came down my trail full speed. I didn't try & stop her because I knew there was a Buck on her tail.

The Buck was not even 30 seconds behind, right on her tail. I tried a whistle to stop him, couldn't make a sound so I barked & stopped him dead in is tracks.

I let my arrow fly & off he ran about 75-100 yards, stopped & stood there for a few minutes just looking around before laying down.

In the meantime a spike walked up behind me on the ridge & if there wasn't a branch that might have gotten in my way,I would have had a 20 yard level shot. The spike eventually snorted & off he went.

I sat still till 2:30 then climbed down to find my deer.

Sorry about the poor quality of the pic's taken from my IPhone.

Light travels faster than sound. That's why some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
