just woundering and i know your quit busy but how would i find out the lenght of the string and th e proper langth needed? Also did u get my request for one of your aeroforce dvd bows? Sorry to bug u. Thanks

I'll try to help with the string length issue. In the charts/manuals section of the forum, Joe has entered a table showing proper string lengths for most all Oneida bows. The table shows a string length of 47-1/8 inches for an Aeroforce with short or medium cams. According to the label on your bow that would be you.

To measure the length of the current string, simply measure it from end of loop to end of loop. On the bow, you might have to estimate the fraction of an inch on each end that you can't measure. It's not rocket science.

I think I can tell from the pictures what Joe sees as indicating that the current string on your Aeroforce is too long. First, it looks like the string lays on the outer limbs past where the string grooves end. Secondly, the butt of the outer limbs appear to come too close to contacting the power limbs. And third, the angles of the cables where they intersect the cams does not appear correct. A shorter string would even up the angles where both cables would lie mostly in the grooves on the flat sides of the cams.

thanks what would be the easiest and best way to take the string off also will it hurt the bow to use a string that is to long

Understand that there are folks watching that have a whole lot more experience and knowledge than I do and that could answer this.

First, probably no harm would come to the bow if the string is not a lot longer than specification. A string too long contributes to excess vibration, noise and perhaps poor shooting. I wouldn't recommed that for a long period of time. In the extreme, it would approach dry firing the bow.

I remove the string from my Black Eagles using one of two methods. I've built myself a jig consisting of two horizontal blocks spaced such that the outer limbs just fit between the blocks at full draw. I draw the bow, place the outer limbs between the blocks and relax the draw. The blocks have to be mounted fairly solid to restrain the power of the bow.

I would recommend the following method for you. Obtain two pieces of round dowel about 1" in diameter and 4 inches or more long. Pieces of closet clothes hanger rod work perfectly. Draw the bow and have a helper place the pieces of dowel crosswise in the gaps that open up between the outer limbs and power limbs. Relax the bow such that the outer limbs pinch the dowels against the power limbs. The string should be limp at this point. Once you are confident in this method, you could do it by yourself by stepping on the string, drawing the bow by pulling on the handle with one hand and placing the dowels with the other.
