I like the split power limb idea that I read in the projects section. I do not know all of the advantages or disadvantages are. But it is visually appealing and from what I understand it also quiets up a bow a bit. Please tell me your thoughts

I never liked the split limb bows but like electro said try it if you like it great. And if it works good others who also like the split limb may use them.

The problem with the split limbs on the current config is to try and control outboard lean. Because the yoke cable and the power cable have the ability to slide in the hinge and saddle they tend to go out more than most. I have built them on a few bows and there needs to be a different cable method to attain this. Bob

But I couldn't find the projects section that you mention? I also got the idea to use split limbs on a lever action bow - my idea was to mount the outboards in between the split power limbs. The main problem I think is to make it look nice - and of course also workable. But I also understood that split limb design doesn't have as many advantages as I thought.

Quote: my idea was to mount the outboards in between the split power limbs. Funny , a guy I know had the same idea about 5 years ago. Problem with the idea I saw was it was getting close to just putting wheels on the bow instead of levers. The system would have a very short distance from the axle point that goes through the power limb to the front of the outboard. When the guy got the idea we looked at it and decided it was not a viable option. A lot of the ideas that I see for lever bows being touted as new Ideas on forums like AT have been looked at over many years even before Oneida came into being. Most of the Ideas I have seen put into play are really just Modified Oneida Bows, nothing more.....................nothing less. I think you and this guy have a lot in common when you look at Oneida Bow designs. We should talk some time. Have a good one Bob

Well - this (below) was my idea for split limb design for lever action bows. It is just a fast sketch that would need some modifications. Also the outboards I tried to make split limb. I thought that the reduced surface area meant less area for wind resistance - faster limbs. But I think it is so little difference over massive limbs. Well - a Hoyt compound bow could also as well be a modified Matthews compound bow.... Have a good day too...

Well looking at your drawing you are not far off from what he was also looking at doing, matter of fact it is almost identical.
As far as wind resistance, I think you mean "moving mass weight and reaction time to move the mass". the "liquidity" of air may be a minimal if not non contributing factor.
Two forces at play here, downward pull on the front of the limb and the upward thrust of the power limb. The key is to balance them both to attain max. energy transfer.
I will tell you now yours and the other design I spoke of will have a huge issue with limb lean. Not trying to be negative but I have been down the road on this a few times. Split limbs over many different configs of wheel bows still even with split harness systems still have issues with split limbs twisting. If you still want to try I would suggest you use 3/4 inch wide limbs like Hoyt (martin) did to help minimize the effect to a degree. (Watch for patent rights here)
Not sure what your point was on the hoyt/ mathews comment but you should try shooting them....................they are very different bows from each other. I know I sold and shot both over the years.
You just have the best day possible and God Bless!
Bob

Bob Well, that was a comment to yours: "Most of the Ideas I have seen put into play are really just Modified Oneida Bows, nothing more.....................nothing less." Most bows are a modification over earlier bows from the same or another company. Of course it has to start somewhere - and then, if the idea is good, it spreads like rings in the water. And development and innovations comes into the picture. I can hardly imagine a completely new bow-type - but who knows?

Quote: Most of the Ideas I have seen put into play The key to my statement would be above. Play meaning you could buy one. There are lots of new modifications out there Some base on the Oneida Discovery and Stealth, that use (or try to use) Fast Flight cable systems on BE or Stealth cam systems. Split limbs have their place in the market, but it is a market that changes year to year. I believe the Solo Cam market is on the upswing again. People have had enough of the Cam 1/2 or Binary systems and a change is on the horizon. The Kestral is a major leap forward for CP Oneida and even with a hefty price I believe it will out sell any of the modified systems in the lever bow world. Just a question, have you ever cabled anything that you show in your drawing? Reason I ask is it would be interesting to know your experience doing them and any insight you can provide as this is a "think tank".....................a place to throw out ideas. Bob
