Guys, my father-in-law was rushed to intensive care this morning, suffering from conjestive heart failure. The prognosis is not good. Could you offer up a prayer for him?

News from last night was that he's been placed on a ventilator. No further information is available yet this morning. Thanks for the prayers.

Just to give you guys some background, my father-in-law, John Sieber, was in the infantry in WWII. He served mostly in France and Germany. He tells of a mission he was on across the German border, where he was on patrol. His squad was doing recon of a German Flak 88 implacement. Everyday they would go and observe their enemy, and every morning they'd see this German officer come out and perform calisthenics (exercises). This went on for several days. Both sides were aware of the other's presence. One morning, my father-in-law received orders to take out the officer. To achieve his mission, he was brought a sniper rifle and was instructed that when he was presented the shot that he was to make it and evacuate the position as quickly as possible to avoid the wrath of the powerful 88's. Later, as daylight dawned, John's rifle sight settled on his target and he squeezed the trigger and a single shot rang out. In the distance he observed the officer leave his feet at the impact of the round. As the shot's report echoed, my father-in-law gathered his things to quickly made his way out of the area, the 88's awakened. The rounds from the 88's soon began to fall into John's former position. He made it back without a scratch and lived to fight another day. Many times he has told this story to us, and I thought you guys might like to hear it.
John Sieber was twice awarded the Purple Heart Medal, and also received a Bronze Star Medal for his service during the war.

Yes Bob, that generation knew sacrifice like no other, in my opinion. Humble men, who did what they did because the countries future was at stake. My father was on Ford Island that day the Japanese attacked, 300 yards from the Battleship Arizona when it was hit. A dairy farmer a mile from us was an Alamo Scout and was one of the first in when the remaining prisoners were rescued from the Phillipines. Galen Kittleson was the laters name.

Please let him know there are still people out here that appreciate the sacrifices they made, and thank you.

Lyle

Guys, my Father-in-Law has passed away. The wife's taking it kind of hard. I appreciate everyone's thoughts and prayers over the past few months. The "old soldier" is resting in a better place now.

Bob W.
