I thought that it might be nice to know what most Oneida Eagle folks hunt with when Gun Season comes in for Deer, Bear, Wild ., etc.! Do you stick with the bow, mix it up (some bow, some gun) or do you always switch to your' gun?

Since I can't Bow Hunt anymore and don't have a Cross Bow, I don't have a choice! I shoot my' rifle, a Remington Model 700 LSS in 7mm Remington Ultra-Magnum with Leupold Scope Mounts and Bases and a matte black Custom Shop Leupold Vari-X III 6.5-20x50mm Long Range Scope with Target Knobs, Mil Dot Reticle and Butler Creek Fip-up Caps. I shoot the Factory Remington 140 grain PSP bullets but would probably go up to a 175 grain if I ever got to Elk Hunt!

That is an awsome looking gun. We can use our bows in place of a gun if we choose here in maine. I use the bow for the season. :D

Joe,

Thanks! I had to sell off a lot of my Rifles and Shotguns due to the financial mess that my wife divorcing me left me in but the Remington Model 700 LSS is the one that I would not sell no matter what. I am a Long Range Shooter at heart and I put too much money and time into the rifle and knowing mine and it's limits. So far, I have taken Deer at no less than 200 yards with her and took a 200 pound six point Buck at 540 yards about three years ago.

We have the option to use a bow during Gun Season here as well...with the exception (I think) of for Wild . in the National Forest. They have created all of these small and large WMA's out of the National Forest Lands and have all of these stupid Seasons and Rules concerning hunting Deer, Wild ., Feral Hogs and Turkey! I try to hunt Private Land so as to not incur any extra costs for stamps but try to get down to the Citigo area near Tellico Plains every year to do some Wild . hunting.

I wish that I could bow hunt again but my Arthritis has been so bad for the past couple of months, that I can barely lift my' right arm at times. In fact, right now, the pain is so bad in my' upper back and in my' right arm, that I have to take breaks from typing a response to a post and do some light stretching or pop the cap on the Ibuprofen or HydroCodone.

Sorry to hear about the divorce and the arthritis. I hope things get better for you.

That's a mighty fine gun and shooting. 540 yards? Wow. I never shot anything past 50 yards. Of my hunting rifles, my Marlin 30-30 is my favorite. It's short and easy to carry.

I have a similar scope on my Anschutz 22LR. It's a Simmons 44 Mag 6.5 X 20, and boy does that thing zoom in for target shooting.

Mark,

Thanks for the condolences and well wishing!

I started out Deer hunting with a Winchester 30-30 but year after year since, I noticed that the shots were getting further and further out, so I adapted. The funny thing is, that the more I adapted, the further and further the shots became. I truly believe that over the years, we change our hunting tactics and in doing so, it effects the distance that we see the most Deer, thus the need for a different rifle able to shoot longer distances. When Gun Season comes in, I still see a few Deer at ranges from 25 to 100 yards but for the most part, the majority of Deer that I see, are well beyond 200 yards. Since I hunt the woods and fields on my Nephew's farm, I like the advantage of being able to take a Deer at shorter ranges but at the same time, having the equipment to take a Deer at the longer ranges, if needed. I can stand at the entrance to the property and possibly spot a Deer in the back pasture field which is about 900 yards away. I have never attempted a shot on a Deer at that distance but if it was big Buck in the right location and there was a large enough backdrop to stop the bullet in case of a miss, then I would more than likely attempt the shot. I know that my' Rifle will down a Deer with ease even at that distance but whether I can make the right correction for the distance and the wind is right, is another story!

That sounds like a great setup for your' Anshutz .22LR!

Nice gun you have! :)

As bowhunting is not legal yet in Sweden I do allmost all my hunting with guns. When we get bowhunting here in Sweden my guns will probably be standing in their safe all season! :)

Sorry but some of the pics are big.

Here they come:

Swedish Mauser m/96, 6,5x55, rebuilt by me:

German Oberndorf Mauser m/96, 6,5x284Norma, Wildcat, rebuilt by me:

Winchester 1300 Turkey gun, 12 Ga:

I actually have one more Win 1300, but it will be used only for spare parts as they don't make these nice guns anymore!

Remington 597 LSHB 22 l.r., it's in the process of getting a new sillouette stock:

Frank, sorry to hear about your divorce, I was in the same situation last year, it's no walk in the park.

I have a Remington 700 BDL 30.06 it has the Answer system muzzle brake and a T/C electra dot 3-9x40 scope. I prefer my T/C Black Diamond XTR .50 cal for most of the time though.

Yes, the Oberndorf was rebuilt with the thought of long range target shooting, but the fun part is that the longest distance I've taken deer with that gun is 7 meters!

Both Mausers are right hand guns that I have modified to be left hand.

Ther,

Those are some nice guns that you have! I have passed up quite a few converted Mausers in hopes of finding a nice pre-War Sporting Mauser. I had the opportunity to purchase a nice one years ago in West Virginia but by the time I had the money, it was already sold.

Why would you want to cannibalize your' other Winchester 1300 when most if not all parts are available here in the U.S. from a few sources? Unless it is illegal to ship the parts to Sweden, then you should be able to find what you need! Parts can be found on www.gunbroker.com, www.gunsinternational.com, www.auctionarms.com, www.gunsamerica.com, from www.e-gunparts.com, sometimes on eBay and some other sites as well.

Thanks for the condolences on the divorce! I have reorganized a lot of my finances and am slowly recovering. I just wish that I could get back the guns that I had to sell off as two were for my grandsons! I was able to hold onto my' Winchester Super X-2 12 gauge, a Winchester 37 12 gauge and a Winchester 370 16 gauge and just purchased a Horton Hawk SL 150 pound Crossbow with Mult-A-Range Scope so that I can bow hunt again.

My problem with the parts for the Win 1300 is that none of the ones you have listed ship internationally. It has something to do with export permits I believe.

Otherwise I would have bought loads of parts and another barrel...

Erik,

I will check on the rules, regulations and restrictions for someone as myself to ship these itmes to you! If it is legal for me to do so, then I will act as the middle-man for you as long as it does not cause me or you any legal problems! There will be no charge for me doing this other than the cost of the parts and for the shipping and if you wonder about my honesty, check out my' Feedback on eBay. My Seller/Buyer name on eBay is: huntsman532ukm

Yes I did the final carving myself, they were only ruffly machined to begin with.
If you are interested, here is a link to my project tread in a swedish forum where I have a complete description of the process of fitting and adapting a new stock to an old system:

Sorry all text is in swedish but there is a lot of pics!
