Had to drop past the local archery shop yesterday to pick up some new feathers, so while I was there, I thought I'd put a few arrows through the chronograph (purely for interests sake).
I wasn't expecting too much with the weight of my arrows, and the vintage of the bow.
Arrows: Full length Easton Power Flight 300, 33" long with 125 grain screw in points, ally inserts and 3 x 5" helical feathers.
Arrow Total Weight: 481 grains
Bow: 1988 Oneida Eagle H500 50-70#, set at 70# with a 32" draw length.
Now, I shoot fingers off a screw in plastic arrow rest (they're a bit quieter than the metal rests for finger shooters).
Arrow Speed: A consistant 244 fps

I took the H500 to it's first interclub shoot on the weekend, and the old girl didn't let me down. Ended up 2nd in my division shooting Barebow Compound. I had the only Oneida there, and the oldest bow by at least 20 years.
When I got home, I thought how nice it'd be to have a new bow like everyone else there. So I bought a Black Eagle 2. Now I've just got to wait for Joe to send it to me.

Just received my BE2 today, got held up in Customs when it hit the shores of Australia.
Got her set up, now just have to do some tuning. Might do a speed test on Saturday and compare results.
Cheers Joe!!!

Here's the new bow all set up. With the 80% let-off, she gets the 481gr arrow with 5" helical feathers going at 250fps on the dot. Correct me if I'm wrong Joe, but if I go to a lower let-off of say 60%, the speed should increase. Attachment:

You are right, the speed will go up! At 60% let-off, I would imagine that the speed will be around 280 fps if not higher. Nice new bow you have but you've got to respect an old H-500 that shoots at only 6 feet per second slower than your' Black Eagle II! I do have one question though! Why do you shoot a full length 33 inch arrow? Are you that tall and have such long arms that that is your correct draw length? I ask because when I started out shooting my' old H-500 back in 1986, I was shooting full length arrows as well. However, with time and experience, I realiized that my draw length was close to 31 inches and after adjusting arrow lengths, I became a much more confident and deadly bow shooter. Also, the increase in speed at which my' old H-500 hurled the arrows, went up quite significantly. I am 6 feet and 1 inch tall, how tall are you? I can usually determine a persons correct draw length by knowing how tall they are! However, I once knew a gentleman that was 5 feet and 10 inches tall that normally should have around a 29 inch draw but had a much longer draw length. Frank

I'm 6'4" tall, and the arrows have 1" of broard head clearence. I have thought about using an over-draw system to shorten my arrows. My draw length is spot on at 32 inches.

The 32 inch draw length sounds about right for your height! Overdraws are great for increasing accuracy due to shorter arrow length but you give up on penetration due to having less arrow weight. If you try an overdraw, I would try adjusting the arrow rest and arrows for 30 inch arrows, By this, you increase the accuracy but give up very little on penetration and with the Black Eagle II, the speed may exceed 300 fps. Good luck mate! Frank
