Joe,
I will be hunting turkey's this spring. Our season is the month of May, morning hunts only, jakes or gobblers only also. I will try for 1 with the gun and the second one I will be bringing the bow out.
I have a Bennelli 12G set up for turkey and most likely the Extreme will be my bow of choice. 65 lbs. with 2413 alluminum arrows, G5 Montec's 125 grain broadheads. We'll see what happens!

Hey Guy's
I just got the word on my Vaca. I'll be in the woods here in Ohio for a week. I want to use the bow, gun will be used if all else fails.
The season here runs from April 23 - May 20 for the Spring season. 2 bearded birds is the limit, hunt stops at noon for the spring.
We had an Archery only last year from Oct 30 to Nov 26, and it was all day. Either sex. Limited counties.

Joe,
hunted SE Kansas and we slammed them again, the birds were a bit henned up but we took our limit again, we took 2 longbearsd each. I took my first bird from a blind this year ... I must say it is really the edge for those silent toms. I also went to wisconsin and took my buddys kids they too limited out on longbeards opening morning and eve, Walker took a 23.5 pound tom in the snow full strut and Ashley took a double bearded gobbler right at 21lbs. See you in Maine very soon and i can't wait... Wisconsin and Michigan are on deck first.. take care ...Dan

hi all, i've been in Indiana all week working and took my boss to a place her 85 year old grandfather knew of,
( yes a turkey addict takes his gear every where durring turkey season)
...well we took him and put him behind us to watch the show and called a nice tom in off the roost to about 15 yards....but....yes there is a sad part of the story about a big tree limb. she never shot but I did get him to gobble at about 15 yards,,,her grandfather who is really is hard of hearing said that was the first gobble he had heard in about 30 years. I knew this would be a day she would remember for the rest of her life taking him and sharing that moment was really an honor to be a part of. I ribbed her a bit about the tom who was 15 yards away, he was a nice 2 year old with a 10 incher and about 20 pounds but as we say.. its the memories that make the hunt and not always the kill..
Instead of hauling a nice bird out over her shoulder she held her grandfathers hand as we walked back to the truck on what most likley was his last turkey hunt. it was a great morning , hope all of you experience the same feeling each time you set foot in the turkey woods with your loved ones....
all my best ..... roostree

hey all,
just got back from a 6 day shooting spree in wisconsin and Michigan,,, I took a 17 lb tom in Wi, with a 10 1/2 beard and a 24.6 lb tom in Michigan with a a whopping 11 3/4 inch beard ....well that oneida extreme eagle can't come soon enough, both birds were under 20 yards standing still.... I have been a turkey addict since I took my first bird back in Vermont in 1978. Hunting to me is very ,very personal... i think of my late father and all the old timers that taught me all the tricks of the trade along the way....as I said in an earlier entry I have taken my buddy's son and niece in Wisconsin and my boss in Indiana and all were very exciting but...I think the best hunts are going to happen in Maine next week. Joe has a gold mine of birds and it sounds like they are answering to the call very well... this is my first bird attempt with archery gear as well as a huge tom-selective boss tagging along as she is getting bitten by the longbeard addiction ...she calls it a "sickness " (like myself).I see a bit of a younger me in her every time we hit the woods.. wish us luck guys...I cant wait to be a member of the family. gonna try like heck to slam one in Maine...
......god speed . roostree

hey all.... sitting here with Joe drying out from two days of soggy turkey hunting. The weather has not been ideal to say the least but we have seen at least 50 birds on the properties that Joe has access to.
Ok... i know im going to catch holy heck for this but I just took a great Maine tom but as you can see in the photo the extreme eagle is not present ... yes i whacked him with the magnum... sorry guys ,,I had a few jakes in the blind come about 40 yards from me when I had my bow but no longbeards. Then on a little scouting trip later this morning I grabbed the gun and took a drive with Joe... oppertunity knocks every once in a while and we took that opertunity down about 11:30 am. I am excited to have taken my bird here in Maine and next fall I'll be back for bear with the extreme.... come on up guys the turkeys are thick , you will work for a bird here but its very sweet when that oppertunity happens .

take care all.... the bird weighed a soaking 19.75 lbs and had 1 inch spurs and a 8.25 inch beard... take care... Roostree

Roostree,
Nice Bird! Way to stick it out through the weather to take him. Next year with the bow! I hope to get up next year also and try my luck!

I can not tell you how much I enjoyed this hunt, I had remembered I had mentioned this hunt and how much fun it was to hunt with this old timer. He said he hadnt heard a turkey gobble for a long time, It sure was an honor to pull one in close so he could see and hear him. He said it was going to be his last hunt and I found out yesterday ... it was
Please everyone go home tonight and spend some time with your family , This old guy ,made it to 84 only to be run down by some ass who dosnt have enough brains to see a stop sign.
Everyone again, please be careful this season. Dan

Dan,
Sorry to hear of the loss of your friends grandfather, my thoughts are with you and his family! Even worse he had to go on someone else's terms, not his!
Prayers are sent!
