A World War II Army veteran in Fayette County thwarted a would-be robber's plans after the man forced his way into his home.
Kenneth Plummer, 82, was working on crossword puzzles a few nights ago in the living room of his home outside Uniontown.
A man came to his door, and said he wanted to use the phone. State Police said the man forced his way inside and tried to rob Plummer. But, the elderly homeowner fought back, stabbing the suspect in his stomach with a kitchen knife.
Plummer told KDKA-TV he ended up on the floor with some knives that were knocked over in the kitchen and he managed to grab the biggest knife and gave the wound-be robber an upper cut.
The robber fled the house, leaving a trail of blood. He may have gotten into a car outside where a second suspect was waiting.
State Police are still looking for the suspect. He's described as a black man in his late 20s or 30s, wearing a black Steelers cap and he may be bloodied.
