Some of the older members may still remember me but the newer ones won't! I am Frank Ferrell from Jefferson City, Tennessee. I have been an Oneida Eagle Bow Shooter and somewhat of a Repair Technician since about 1988 when I lived in West Virginia. Although I have popped in from time to time to read some of the posts on the forums, I haven't been an active member or Bow Shooter since about 2003 due to Arthritis in both of my' elbows as well as in my' neck. I came across a fairly great deal on an Oneida Screaming Eagle last year and thought that I might try to get back into shooting, since my Arthritis has not flared up in quite awhile. However, that was a mistake as after drawing the bow some 20 times, the Arthritis let me know quickly that it was always there and just laying it wait for me to be stupid! Now I have a nice Screaming Eagle Bow that I need to sell but want to give a correct description of the bow but I am haing trouble deciphering the Serial number. I know that it is a Screaming Eagle but is it a SE600 or SE689!! I am hoping that someone on the forums can help me determine exactly what Model of bow that it is! The Serial Number (I believe) reads - SXD1895 but what I now believe is a "D" in the Serial Number is an "O" with a vertical bar through the left side. At first, I thought that the Serial Number read as - SX101895 and that the vertical bar through the "O" was just bad scribbling (etching) of a "1" and "0". If I am correct in that it actually a "D", then that makes the bow as being produced in 1989 and it is a Screaming Eagle. However, is it a SE600 or SE689 which is really where I am haing the most trouble!
Any help that you all could offer, would be highly appreciated! Also, although I hardly ever get a call to repair an Oneida Eagle Bow, I am available if anyone ever needs help.
Thanks...Frank

Hello Frank, welcome to the oneida bows forum, great to have you here.
From what I know your bow was most likely a custom built bow and only a few were made and should be a 1989 SE 689. After checking our charts do not see this bow listed. It may be listed in the history section but I didnt see it. I will look into this more and get back to you if I learn anything else.

Hi Frank, Matt said to say hello. I have heard you were a driving force for oneida in the past and we look forward to your participation here on the forum. If you can tell me which power and yoke cables you have as well as string length we may be able to better identify this bow for you.

Thanks for the welcome back! It has been a long time...really too long since I conversed with any of the Oneida Eagle Bow Shooters!
I would bet that you are correct on the information about the bow! This is such a nice bow that I could not pass it up when I saw it! Other than a few minor nicks and I mean minor...of missing paint, the bow looks and shoots like brand new and has seen very little use. That by itself isd amazing for a 20 year old bow but besides that, I would bet that the string that came on it, was the original string. I replaced it because the loop servings started to come apart but have not even set it up or sighted it in since replacing the string. I was wondering if you could tell me what would be a fair price for it since I have been pretty much incognito when it comes to their' values, for a very long time??!! You can email me, if you don't feel comfortable stating a value on the forum! I really need to sell it quick due to some bills and am not sure if the Sell Forum here or eBay would be best. The bow comes with a Stabilizer, Limb Savers including a brand new small pair that I was going to try out on the outboard limbs, an HHA quick release and hard bow case.
Thanks again for the information and ahead of time for any other help you can provide!
Frank
P.S. It is a right-handed bow and it has a black Eagle's Head painted inside a gray camo paint spot on the left side just above and opposite of the sight screws. Is there any significance to this and I have never seen it on any other Oneida Eagle Bows and I have seen and show lots of them??!!

Hi Frank, does it look like these SE689's? With the string and cable combination we talked about this is what I think your bow is. As for value that is up to you. Sounds like a very nice bow and I would advertize in our classifieds. Thanks Joe

greentoes,
Thanks for the welcome back! This would be a really nice bow for your wife but unless she is about 5' 10-11" to 6' 1" tall, then it would probably have to have a complete rebuild. However, I have seen shorter folks that could shoot longer draw bows. I once sold a long draw Aero-force X80 to a guy that was only about 5' 10" and real stocky. I swear that all of the weight lifting stretched his' arms! LOL!
With Joe's help, we were able to determine that the bow is a SE600 built in 1989, is a 50 to 70 pound draw weight and 29 to 30" draw. It's been awhile since I have completely rebuilt an Oneida but if I recall, it would take replacement of the power and outboard limbs, the power and yoke cables and the timing system as well. A pretty expensive conversion unless you can resell the parts off of this bow which are not new but are in excellent condition. As I stated in my posting to Joe, the bow has seen very little use in it's 20 years of life and the bow string that came on it and I just replaced, was probably the original bow string. The bow also comes with a HHA quick release, stabilizer, sight, large installed limb savers, a brand new (in package) pair of small limb savers, two brand new bow strings (one installed) and a hard bow case. There was no quiver or arrows with it when I got it but I keep a few arrows around in case I need to work on a bow or two and these are what I used to experiment to see if I was able to shoot again. However, that was a mistake as my Arthritis reared it's ugly head in full force the next morning!
Let me know what you find out about your wifes measurements and what you might want to do. I hope to get the ad and pictures of it up on the Sell forum tomorrow. Just too many things to do today to get around to it!
Frank

Making the draw length change depends on which set up you have and which draw length you are going to. Parts can be costly when making this change. The bow being a 50 to 70 adds to the cost also if you need to lower the weight range on the bow also.

my wife is 5'10" and I'm guessing 29 to 30 " draw the way I see as a boilermaker ( union ) she should be able to draw 50 lbs. E-mail me a private price and we will go from there. Thanx for the reply.

Great to see you back here Frank. Looking at it from the the old Oneida forum, I got back here about 7 months ago.
I talked with you on the phone a few times years ago.
Enjoy.
Bob

Thanks to everyone for the welcome back! As I wrote to Joe in an email, I am not sure how often I will be able to participate in the forums but I will be available via email if anyone ever needs advice or help. I am trying to get myself setup to retire which was set back by my wife divorcing me in December after 32 1/2 years. I also will have to have neck and back surgery before I retire to fix the deteriorated disks due to the arthritis. I
Gold and Gem Prospect, hunt, do a little bit of fishing, do some long range rifle shooting and coin collect and hope to be able to continue these after the surgery or surgeries. I just had a cyst removed that was near my' spine and which was causing problems in both of my' arms and hands. How something so simple as a cystectomy (or however it is spelled) can hurt so dang bad after wards, beats the Jimmy Dickens out of me!
I am sorry that I was unable to get the ad and pics of the SE689 posted today! I had to go out of town and got back about an hour before having to go to work (that's where I am at now).
Frank
