I've replaced the power cables twice over the years, and the string several times (60X Custom Strings), but not the yoke cables (yeah, I know). Six months ago after swapping out my last set of extra power cables, I decided it was time to put on new yoke cables as well. I called Oneida to try to order these, but they had no idea that the Kestrel-Hawk even existed. When the new owners of Oneida moved the company, records of bows built prior to that did not go with them. Fortunately, I was able to reach Matt Pollington and he still had records and some knowledge of this bow. He said the yoke cables were considered to be coded copper/copper, made just for this bow, at a length of 17 3/4". I called Oneida with this information and they said that they didn't have this color combination for yoke cables. Further, they don't make their own cables like the Michigan based company did, instead buying finished cables from somewhere else in bulk to get a discount. Because of this, they aren't going to be stocking this particular cable. Nice.
So, I got in touch with Joe about a month ago and explained the situation. Through some discussion, we determined that the length of these cables given to me by Matt were based on the end-to-end length. Joe informed me that the swedges can differ in length based on how they are crimped, so the distance between the swedges is what the cable length should be based. Figuring the length of the swedges being 1/4" each, the inside length of the cable should be 17 1/4".
I got the new yoke cables within a week of talking with Joe. After installing them and getting the bow back up to the previous poundage, I noted that the brace height and tillers were the same as what I measured before the switch in cables. Perfect!
Thanks Joe for getting me back on track with this bow!Statistics: Posted by StringHusher — Thu Jun 21, 2018 10:16 pm — Replies 0 — Views 21
