January Year 2000
Dear Archer,
Oneida enters the new year with the most exciting new product lineup in the industry. No other bow manufacturer can boast 2 new patents on 2 totally new designs. While our competitors boast about minor changes in grips, camo or axle to axle length, they are merely copying each other and claiming, as new, anything that will break the monotony. In this "me too" environment we have dared to be different.
The Black Eagle, PRO and Discovery are not just new models but whole new platforms for a generation of innovation. Our designs are not mere cosmetic changes but functionally better.
Let me illustrate by comparing the PRO Eagle to competitors bridge designs. The stresses on a wheel bow are mostly toward the cable guard yet a bridge riser exhibits stiffness from front to back. However, because the PRO does not need a cable guard, most stresses are in line with the bridge plus we use the bridge to hide the timing cable! The result is the most solid feeling bow on the market. We also took customer feedback and refined the weight, balance and cams while making the bow finger shooter friendly and camouflaged for hunters.
Another example of how we innovate: both the Stealth and the Black Eagle make use of forged parts including the riser.
Forging aluminum has been standard procedure in mission critical applications such as aerospace, but few bow companies are using forged parts today. Forged parts are harder to machine, the dies are expensive and most consumers do not understand the advantages in strength and vibration dampening. Yet another example is the use of injection molded long strand fiberglass. Golden Eagle filed for a patent in 1996 on the use of this technology in making limbs. Oneida has used the method since 1991 to make timing wheels and saddles and we have a file of limb designs from 1992 long before our competitors.
Obviously the Discovery is the epitome of innovation. It is the first no cam, lightest Oneida ever, synthetic cables, carbon epoxy cable guard, micro adjustable let-off, split limbs. Feedback from customers has been enthusiastic describing the bow as "quieter than any other bow", "no hand shock", "forgiving", "solid", "easy to shoot", "essence of simplicity", and more.
We continue to refine the Black Eagle which was launched in '99 and has had rave reviews. We came up with the new LF
model which gives the release shooter with a 27" - 29" draw length big cams and short length, giving more speed at the shorter draw lengths than previously with the short cams. We also redesigned the short cams to accept the modules from the big cams so they have more draw range and higher let-off. We have also introduced an optional one piece grip. On the business side we are innovating, too. We have offered our dealers the opportunity to become Web Affiliates. This program is designed to give our loyal dealers access to sales from our busy Web site. Consumers can custom order Discoverys and Stealths directly from the factory and have the bow delivered to their nearest authorized dealer. The dealer will provide set-up and accessories, thus getting his profit without having to stock every possible model and draw length. The consumer gets his bow and dealer tech support.
We also were the first bow manufacturer to put an owners manual on-line so improvements and changes could be down
loaded by customer s in full color instantaneously. Take a look at the trophy rooms to see Dane Edwards possible New York State record whitetail and many more examples of how Oneida innovations give hunters an edge.
We at Oneida sincerely hope that you have a great new year.
Good Shooting,
